lasting impressions
This show looks into what could be, may have been, what you know or you think you know. It banks on the collective memory, the factors in everyday life that allow you to fill the blanks – or maybe empty them. It makes the viewer question did it ever happen? Empty spaces and shadows take form, no longer the understudy, they step up to the role of protagonists.
Heather Cox‘s “Tissue” is an installation of thirteen life-size, handmade figures made out of black tissue paper and glue. The forms are reminiscent of tissue paper party decorations gone seriously awry. Each figure measures 64″ x 15″ x approximately 15″, echoing the silhouette of the artist’s body. The figures hang from the ceiling, attach to the walls and fold into corners. They turn gently as viewers brush by, confronting the audience with exactly the same profile from all
vantage points. Their omnipresence is both fixed and dynamic.
